Acacia Arabica popularly known as 'Babool' is originated from the Sind province of Pakistan. It occurs wild the India subcontinent & tropical Africa. It is also cultivated for its bark. The leaves, the bark the pods & the gum of the tree have medicinal virtues. Babool is a large tree with thorns on its branches it has dark Grey bark & yellow flowers in spherical heads the tree yields a gum known as Babool gum. The eminent UNANI physician Hakeem Hashmi points out that the leaves and the bark are useful catarrhal matter & phlegm from the bronchial tubes. The gum allays any irritation of the skin and soothes the inflamed membranes of the pharynx alimentary canal & Genito urinary organs.

DIARRHOEA: -

1. A mixture of equal parts of the tender leaves with & black cumin seeds can be administered in does 12 grams thrice, daily.
2. An infusion made of the bark of the tree may also be taken thrice daily.
3. The gum used either indecoction or in syrup is an effective medicine for diarrhoea.

Chewing of fresh bark of Babool tree daily helps strengthen loose teeth & arrest any bleeding from the gums. Dirty teeth can be cleaned effectively by brushing them with a power in which 60 grams of charcoal of Babool wood, 24 grams of roasted alum & 12 grams of rock salt have been included.

The leaves ground to a paste, should be applied on the affected eyes at night, supported by a bandage, which should be untided, the following morning. This removes pain & redness of conjuntivities.

Twenty five grams each of Babool bark & mango bark should be boiled in about 1 liter of water & the vapours allowed to poment the affected part. After the fomentation the affected part should be another with ghee. This is very useful in the treatment of Eczema.

A decoction of the bark, mixed with rock salt should be used as a gargle in treating tonsilities.

Decoction of Babool bark should be used as a vaginal douche for treating leucorrhoea.

According to Hakeem Hashmi, Babool pods are very effective in treating sexual disorders like, spermatorrhoea, frequent night discharges, loss viscidity of the semen & premature ejaculation. Many unani & Ayurveda medicines are made from Babool to treat sexual disorders. The medicines made from pods are Babool is said to increase the power of retention of the semen. Even extremely debilitated patients suffering from the bad consequences of masturbation are believed to get rejuvenated by its use and attain normal retentive power. It improves the viscidity of the semen & is an excellent medicine for spermatorrhoea. Tender, seedless pods are dried in shade powdered & mixed with an equal weight of brown sugar. Six grams of this mixture taken with milk in the morning is effectively cures spermatorrhoea & other sexual disorders. Tender branches of Babool tree are considered wonderful tooth cleaners. Traditionally people the village's use this twigs as tooth brushing. Babool is one of the major herb ingredient used in UNANI system of herbal medicine.
