CUMIN SEEDS

CURES FROMACULINERY DELITE.

Cumin seeds are one of the common & popular condiments used in cooking, uariety of food delicacies, world over, especially in Asian & Africa countries. Oriental culinary art is incomplete without cumin seeds. In India vegetarian & non-vegetarian food preparations are mixed with cumin seeds either in whole or as powder. Hakeem Hashmi, one of the fore most unani physicians says "cumin seeds" are extensively used for preparing various medicines of unani & Ayurvedic systems. Cumin seeds is grown all over India cumin seed is dry back bit astringent, carminative, stomachic, aromatic, blood uterus. Its is stimulant used in dyspepsia, fever, swelling, uterus problems & is germicidal insecticide. Cumin the annual herb is a native of Egypt, Syria, Turkey and Eastern Mediterranean region. It was one of the commonest spices during the middle ages. It is now grown in south Eastern rope NortAfrica, India & China.

HEALING PROPERTIES.

MOUTH DISORDERS: -
  1. Eating roasted cumin seeds eliminates foul smell in the mouth.
  2. Gargling with ground cumin seeds put in water with cardamom eliminates foul smell and cures blisters the mouth.
  3. Massaging the gums with powdered roasted cumin seeds mixed with rock salt (in equal portions) helps in reducing the swelling of gums & cures pain by oozing out saliva.
INDIGESTION & STOMACH AILMENTS: -
  1. One teaspoon cumin seeds boiled in a glass of water then cooled strained & made three does, taken thrice a day eliminates indigestion.
  2. Taking ground cumin seeds with honey or jaggery after meals cures stomachache.
DIARRHOEA: -
  1. Taking roasted ground cumin seeds power mixed with ½ tsp. Honey controls loose motions.
  2. One teaspoon of cumin seeds is boiled in back glass of water and the decoction mixed with one teaspoon of fresh coriander leaf juice and a pinch of salt. This decoction can be taken twice daily after meals as a medicine for diarrhoea.
COMMON COLD: -

Dilute cumin water is an antiseptic beverage and very useful in common cold & fevers. To prepare cumin water a teaspoon of cumin is added to boiling water, which is allowed to simmer for a few seconds and set aside to cool if the cold is associated with sore throat, a few small pieces dry ginger should be added to the water. It sooths throat irritation.

CHRONIC FEVER: - Taking cumin seeds with jaggary twice a dry for two to three weeks cures fever.

PILES: -
  1. Taking cumin seeds with sugar candy help in curing piles.
  2. Boil cumin seeds, aniseeds, coriander seeds itsp each in 2 gups of water till one cup is left. Take this water with pure ghee. It helps to eliminate oozing of blood in the piles.
  3. Taking itsp ground cumin seeds & ¼ tsp. ground black pepper with honey eliminates pain & cures piles.
INSOMNIA: -

Cumin is valuable in relieving sleeplessness. A teaspoon of the fried power of cumin seeds mixed with the pulp of a ripe banana can be taken at night to induce sleep.

BOILS: -

Black cumin seeds ground in water is applied as a paste over the boils with beneficial results.

SCORPION STING: -

Paste of the cumin seeds prepared with onion juice, applied over scorpion sting will retard the frequency of upbeats.

INSECT BITE: -
  1. Applying a paste of cumin seeds & dry ginger on the affected part eliminates the poison.
  2. Applying heated of cumin seeds with rock salt & ghee eliminates poison.
INSECT REPELLENT: -

Keeping a little bundle of cumin seeds in cupboards makes them free from insects & moths.

STOMACH WORMS: -

Taking itsp cumin seeds with water before going to bed for 2 or 3 days kills the worms. Cumin seeds has a peculiar, strong & heavy odour or the dried seeds from the essential ingredient of curry power it is extensively used the mixed spices and for flavoring, curries, soups, savages, bread & cakes. It is an ingredient of curry power pickles & chutneys. Cumin seeds are rich source of thymol is used as an anthelminitic against hook worm infection and also an antiseptic the many allopathy & other medical preparation. Hakeem Hashmi gives back word of caution that pregnant ladies should not take cumin seeds in excessive quantity for the may lead to abortion.
