Unani Treatment in Amroha - Hashmi Dawakhana

Unani medicine (Unani Tibb) is a traditional system of healing that grew from the teachings of Hippocrates and Galen and was developed by physicians such as Ibn Sina (Avicenna). It is officially recognised in India under the Ministry of AYUSH. Unani sees each person as having a unique temperament (mizaj) and aims to restore balance through medicine, diet and daily regimen.

Hashmi Dawakhana was founded in Amroha in 1929 by Hakeem Mehtab Uddin Hashmi, and the family has offered Unani consultations ever since. Today we see patients from Amroha, Moradabad and across Uttar Pradesh in our clinic, and patients from all over India through online consultation.

Common signs and symptoms

  • Men's sexual health: premature ejaculation, erectile weakness, nightfall, low sperm count
  • Women's health: PCOS, irregular or painful periods, leucorrhoea, low libido
  • Couples who are unable to conceive
  • Kidney stones (pathri) and urinary complaints
  • General weakness, fatigue, stress and low stamina

Possible causes

  • Unani explains illness as an imbalance of the four humours (akhlat) - blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile
  • Imbalance can come from diet, sleep, activity, emotions, environment and elimination
  • Each person has a dominant temperament - hot, cold, moist or dry - which shapes treatment
  • Treatment therefore depends on the person, not only on the name of the disease

How Unani medicine approaches it

Unani treatment works at three levels. First, Ilaj bil Tadbeer (regimen therapy) - changes in sleep, exercise, stress and routine. Second, Ilaj bil Ghiza (diet therapy) - foods chosen to correct the imbalance. Third, Ilaj bil Dawa (pharmacotherapy) - formulations from herbs, minerals and other natural sources, prescribed individually.

Our hakims use these principles alongside modern understanding: we ask for relevant reports, respect your existing treatment, and refer to a specialist when a condition needs one.

  • Individual assessment of temperament (mizaj), pulse (nabz) and history
  • Classical Unani formulations prepared under the guidance of our hakims
  • Diet and lifestyle plans you can follow at home
  • Private consultations in Hindi, Urdu and English - in clinic or online
  • Honest guidance on what Unani can and cannot help with

Unani formulations are made from natural ingredients and have been used for centuries, but like any medicine they must be prescribed correctly. Our hakims check your health and current medicines before prescribing, and we advise against buying unlabelled products.

We mainly see men's and women's sexual and reproductive health concerns, infertility in couples, kidney stones, and general weakness. See the related treatment pages for details on each.
